Are engagement photos really worth it? Five great reasons to book an engagement photoshoot after you say ‘Yes!’

The news is sinking in: you’re going to get married. Your mantelpiece is heaving with cards, you’ve just about stopped grinning like a cheshire cat every moment of the day and wedding venue research has started in earnest. Maybe you’re already considering an engagement shoot, or perhaps a friend has suggested it to you. The question is: is it worth it? It can be a tricky question, especially if you’re already not keen about being in front of the camera. Personally I love doing engagement shoots and I think the photos are an amazing memory to treasure, but here are five great reasons you might not have thought of to book in an engagement shoot:

1. Capturing a special moment in time

Right now you might be focused on what it will be like to be a married couple, but one day you might really love to revisit who you were before you were married. As you begin a lifelong (and hopefully very happy) journey together, it’s really lovely to mark this special moment in time.

2. Get to know your photographer

Many couples don’t think of this, but in planning an engagement shoot, you’ll have a chance to get to know your photographer really well. This means you’ll be more relaxed in front of the camera for your wedding and probably a lot less stressed about having your photographs taken.

3. Practice picture perfect

A great photographer will help you feel relaxed and tell you exactly how to hold each other to make sure you’re picture perfect together, but having an engagement shoot gives you an opportunity to practice. For my clients, I know they want the most natural photographs of them together, so I guide them on how to stand and hold hands or hold each other in a way that feels right to them (and looks good!). An engagement shoot is the ideal chance to get your photography style right, without the pressure of the big day and everything that goes with it.

4. Benefit from a package deal

Most photographers (like me!) will offer a package deal, so having an engagement shoot doesn’t have to break the bank. My Gold wedding photography package includes an engagement shoot and you get to keep at least 10 lovely digital shots of you both to treasure forever.

5. Wedding stationery? No problem!

If you’re sending out save the date, wedding invites or setting up a wedding website, your engagement shoot photos will be the perfect images to bring all of these to life and make designing them a breeze.
