THINGS YOU WISH YOU’D KNOW BEFORE YOUR WEDDING DAY
YOUR DRESS WILL GET DIRTY!
The dress is quite often one of, if not the most expensive items that you will be buying for your wedding day and of course you don’t want to get it trashed but if it is long and flowing or maybe has a train there is the possibility that this will get dirty, knowing this and being prepared for this will hopefully make you less stressed about it on the day. Obviously the weather has a lot to do with the outcome of your dress and many dresses have a way of hitching up the train or even detaching it from the dress altogether. You’ll be pleased to know that I carry a clear plastic sheet with me to place under your dress train should the ground be wet or muddy. Think about asking for some little helpers to carry your train when you walk from one place to another.
YOU MIGHT NOT THINK YOU’LL GET EMOTIONAL BUT IT’S POSSIBLE
If you don’t get emotional during the ceremony you might during the speeches, it could be at a moment least expected. It’s always good to ask someone to have some tissues at hand. But don’t worry I always have some to give. It might be someone else that gets emotional – father of the bride or the groom – I’m not selective who I hand out tissues to.
YOUR MAKEUP MIGHT NEED A LITTLE TOUCHING UP
Most makeup artists are amazing at their job, I am always so impressed how your makeup stays on and still looks fresh hours later, but however wonderful your makeup there are times when maybe your lipstick needs a refresher – especially if there has been a fair bit of kissing. Ask me to carry your lipstick, I’ll put it safely in my kit bag and you can use it at any time.
YOU JUST DON’T GET TO TALK TO EVERYONE
It’s sometimes impossible to talk to everyone, even if you do manage it you might not actually remember talking to some people or the conversations you’ve had. A good tip would be, to set some time aside for you and your partner to do the rounds during the first course for example or plan for a traditional line up. There will always be someone you wants to chat more than someone else or a relative you haven’t seen for ages and wants to talk more than the next person, but remember it’s your day and although it’s good to be polite, you only have a finite amount of time.
IT’S A CLICHE BUT THE DAY REALLY DOES GO IN A FLASH
Try and absorb as much as possible, take in the detail and drink plenty of water. There is often so much work that goes into planning a wedding right down to the detail on the tables. The tables might look just like a normal wedding breakfast table but to the couple getting married this is a huge part of their wedding theme and vision. Make sure you hire a good photographer who understands that documenting the details is really important to you.
DON’T GO HUNGRY
It’s really easy with the adrenaline pumping and all the excitement to forget to eat and by the time you’ve sat down for the meal it might be 5pm and your starving. Assign someone the job of keeping you fed and watered with healthy non-bloating snacks that won’t spill on your dress or mark your suit. And if you need a quick pick me up I usually carry a few jelly babies with me or a protein bar if you prefer.
So there you go, just a few things that some couples will be glad to know before their wedding day.
