The Grand Hotel is a Grade II listed building situated in South Western House, Southampton. Built in 1872 by the London and South Western Railway it was originally known as the South Western Hotel. Heavily influenced by the French Renaissance style it was one of the most luxurious hotels in Southampton at the time. and a popular destination for wealthy travelers. It was even used by many of the Titanic’s first class passengers before they departed on the ship!
The hotel closed in 1997 and was converted into apartments, but the public areas of the hotel, including the Grand Ballroom and the Palm Court, have been preserved and are now available for hire for events. You can happily lose yourself in the beautiful details of this building, from elaborately framed windows to swathes of marbles and even little balconies framed by intricate iron work.
I am a recommended photographer here and thoroughly enjoy taking photographs at this venue. It feels decadent, sumptuous and effortlessly glamorous, with its high ceilings, beautiful chandeliers and elegant furniture. This venue provides the perfect backdrop for a classy city wedding.
