West Sussex Wedding by the Sea

Just before Christmas I had the pleasure of shooting a beautiful wedding hosted by Itchenor Sailing Club near Chichester in West Sussex. Being December there was always the potential for the weather to be bad, but today we were blessed. It was bitterly cold but clear and bright. It felt like we had the whole harbour to ourselves, a totally private wedding party with no-one to be seen for miles, only blue seas, blue skies and the odd seagull. The bride and groom and all the guests did well to fight off the cold whilst I made the most of the idyllic setting. As the sun started to drop lower in the sky only a few days away from the shortest day, the golden light cast across the bride and groom's faces was more reminiscent of the Caribbean than of good ol' Blighty. Such a fun, crazy crowd, we attempted a total group photo on the decking looking out to the harbour. I think for a natural look it turned out ok, it certainly captured the atmosphere of the happy day.

The sun soon set and we were glad to go inside this beautiful old building with cosy low ceilings and a roaring fire. The club had been decorated with festive decorations and a Christmas tree with an angel on top stood by the front door. The building has been a sailing club since 1927 which hosts races between April and November. Club members include the British Actress Kate Winslet and many Olympic medalists including John Merricks and Ian Walker both two times silver medallists.

The sunsetting drinks and canapes were followed by a three course sit down wedding breakfast in the main dining room and conservatory. A bubble of happy noises filled the room along with chilled Prosecco and the sounds of children's laughter.

Three speeches later with much laughter and emotion it was time for the sparklers, we just about had enough to make a sparkler tunnel as many of the guests couldn't wait any longer for the bride and groom and  decided to light theirs anyway, lol.
